Cristian Cucu

Mr. Cristian Cucu is a technology manager and strategist specialized in large scale digital transformation and cybersecurity projects, a graduate of business studies in Bucharest and MBA from Northwood University, MI, USA.
He focused on cybersecurity since 2001, implementing and consulting on complex projects from security base-lining, preemptive protection, remediation to resolution. He is a certified auditor in system’s security and risk management and the current interests outline cybersecurity strategy, intelligence and architecture in national critical infrastructure.
In 2016 he was offered a complex challenge and became the first Government CIO with responsibilities, as state secretary, to coordinate and accelerate the digital transformation initiatives, interoperability and cybersecurity within all government entities, to develop the enterprise architecture and to align the technology projects, investments and resources with the objectives of the national strategy. Between 2017 and 2019 he also acted as the national critical infrastructure advisor to the Prime-Minister, in addition to his GovCIO role.
After three years with the central government, in 2019 he joined Nuclearelectrica, respected worldwide among nuclear power generation companies for having one of the highest nuclear safety standards. As CIO he was responsible to lead technology initiatives towards a complete re-platform of the entire architecture, prioritize and coordinate digital transformation projects and to develop an integrated and modern cybersecurity architecture to protect against IT, OT, IoT and hybrid threats. In his CIO capacity he also won an EU-financed project to develop the first public sector Romanian ISAC (Information Sharing and Analysis Center) dedicated to improving cybersecurity in the energy sector.
Starting with 2021 he focused on the digital overhaul of the Ministry of Finance with its Tax and Customs Agencies, having one of the most complex ICT architectures in Romania, with the final goal to rethink how current manual business processes and legacy platforms should be transformed into digital automated processes, supported by a modern and resilient infrastructure to improve the interactions with citizens and other institutions.
Currently he is also a strategic advisor for large multinationals for digital business process transformation, cybersecurity and public sector engagement.
